Exploring Trust Factors in Team Contexts: a cross-cultural and gender survey

A high level of trust is both a key lubricant and the essential glue which can lead to productivity in teams. But are there different needs for types of trust across countries and gender? We would like your help in exploring this important issue by completing the survey at the link below. The benefit for you is that you will also have a link to the results - as they come in, and over time. So, you can share in the results we get. All you have to do is fill in the questionnaire and at the end you will get instructions on the results link - which you can also filter to explore different results.

The survey takes less than 10 minutes and can be found at:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=lEbbeDU7Dj6QbPfbq3EQPA_3d_3d

We would like to develop a 'viral network' of people responding to produce a large number of responses as quickly as possible so we would also ask you to cut and paste this message and send it on to anyone in your network who works in a team (and that's most working people these days) and understands English.

We believe this is the power of SIETAR and a way to leverage such a global network for better mutual understanding for the benefit of everyone.

We will commit to writing up a report on the results by the end of 2008 to share with all SIETAR members. We also hope to deliver a paper on the results at the Grenada Congress in October.

We trust in the generosity of your support. Thanks so much.

The SIETAR ITALIA Team (Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research)

Global online discussion on achieving sustainable development

DESA and UNDP will hold an online discussion (http://www.un.org/ecosoc/newfunct/amredis.shtml) on Achieving Sustainable Development from 4 February to 14 March 2008. This open, multi-stakeholder  e-discussion will bring together experts, practitioners and policy-makers from around the globe to discuss broadly (I) challenges countries face in integrating the goals of economic growth, social development and environmental protection, and (II) concrete policy initiatives that can help States to achieve sustainable development.

Guest moderators will guide participants through a series of questions, with the aim to develop recommendations to Member States to help strengthen their efforts to achieve sustainable development and to provide the Economic and Social Council with constructive inputs on efforts it can undertake to promote sustainable development. The discussion will also explore what actions other stakeholders, including the UN system, can take.

The e-discussion outcome will contribute to the 2008 Annual Ministerial Review of the Economic and Social Council, to be held in New York in July.

The discussion will be hosted on MDGnet (http://www.undg.org/index.cfm?p=99). For background information on the discussion please see: http://www.un.org/ecosoc/newfunct/amredis.shtml. All colleagues are invited to take part.

To subscribe to the e-discussion before 3 February, kindly send a blank message to join-mdg-amr@groups.dev-nets.org. If you wish to join after the discussion has launched on 4 February, please send an email to mdg-amr@groups.dev-nets.org with the subject: subscription to eDiscussion on Achieving Sustainable Development.

Looking for Participants & Coordinators for the Project Follow the Women

Dear SWYers All around the World,

I hope everyone doing fine all and has made a good start to 2008. I am writing this email because one of the projects I have also involved in 2005 and planning to involve this year as well is looking for both participants for the present participating countries, also trying to enlarge the project with the participation of new countries. And I believe with the help of you, maybe directly you or via the networks you all have all over the world we can have newcomers in this amazing project which is as exciting as SWY, a great chance for all the women who are tired to watch news about war and who can finally get a way to do something, to contribute to the peace process.

You all can get detail information from the website of the project which is http://www.followthewomen.com/Just to give you a brief info: FOLLOW THE WOMEN is an international movement comprised of approximately 300 ordinary women, from as many as 30 different countries, who support peace and an end to violence in the Middle East. There has never been a greater need for the women of the world to work together for a more peaceful present and future.

The aims of FOLLOW THE WOMEN are to:raise awareness of how the current situation in the Middle East affects the lives of women and children in the region, show solidarity towards women in the region, increase support networks between women all around the world, bring an end to violence and suffering in the region. In order to work towards achieving these aims, FOLLOW THE WOMEN organized three cycle rides, and is currently preparing for the fourth ride to be held in 2008.

In April 2004, the first ride was across Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. In September 2005, the second bicycle ride took place from Beirut to Damascus to Amman and finally into Ramallah, Palestine. In April 2007, cycling began in Syria, continuing into Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine.

For more info please visit the website. Or you can ask me any unclear points or to Dear Detta who is the main coordinator of the project. The list below shows the already participating countries and anyone from those countries may contact with the coordinators listed below-if any email doesn’t work, please contact me-, for the countries which are not on the list-THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR THE PROJECT- we are looking for NEW coordinators and NEW participants for NEW COUNTRIES.

Please as SWYers help us both in distributing this information and getting new countries involved into the project. If we want to inherent a better world to our children I do believe we all should be doing something for the problems in the world. If you feel really unhappy not being able to do something about the situation in middle east, if you say enough to bloody wars and assassinations, attacks to people, here is a chance to do something. I believe every small step means something and can create a domino effect first by making people more conscious to world issues than encouraging them to react against them.If any of you can participate I will be so happy to see you in FTW 2008.

The ride this year will be held in 30th April-11th May, starting in Beirut, finishing on the Palestinian/Jordanian border.Like SWY, FTW was one of the best projects I had a chance to involve. If you have a small chance to come please do not hesitate, you will understand me better after FTW.Thanks for your support in advance.

Best Wishes to you all and Greetings from Istanbul

ICTE, International Guest Program

Dear Colleagues and Friends:

We are pleased to announce that the ICTE is now accepting applications for the 2008-09 cycle of its International Guest Program. Many of you have already met with our International Guests in the past and know the outstanding individuals we select for this unique opportunity.

For those of you who are not familiar, each year the International Guest Program welcomes 20-25 human rights leaders and peace educators primarily from the Global South. These activists come for a 2-3 month residency in Brooklyn , working within the ICTE community. The program aims to support each guest’s commitment to empowering local communities in the promotion of tolerance, human rights, respect for diversity and social justice. Individualized work plans are created with the guests that involve networking, professional skills training, opportunities to present their work, and time to reflect on their ongoing efforts.

This year, we are placing a special emphasis on “Scholars and Practitioners in the field of Tolerance Education”. Therefore, we are reaching out to all of you in the field and in academia. Please pass these guidelines along to your colleagues who you feel are interested and qualified for the program. The guidelines are attached to this e-mail, and can also be found on our website: http://www.seedsoftolerance.org/fgp.html.

The deadline for applications is January 21st, 2008. Please circulate this information, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Veronique
